What costs can apply when trading ETFs?

The total cost of an ETF transaction can include a brokerage commission, a minimum commission, the market bid-ask spread, currency conversion, exchange or local market charges, custody fees, and taxes or administrative charges where applicable. The ETF issuer may also charge a management fee or expense ratio through the fund.

ETF brokerage fees and ETF management fees

ETF brokerage or commission

ETF brokerage is the charge applied when you buy or sell an ETF through Totality. It may be calculated as a percentage of the transaction value or as a per-share charge, subject to the minimum and maximum shown for the relevant exchange.

ETF management fee or expense ratio

An ETF management fee is set by the ETF issuer and is generally reflected in the fund's value rather than charged as a separate Totality brokerage fee. Review the ETF's product documents for the current management fee and other issuer-level costs.

Bid-ask spread

The bid-ask spread is the difference between the available buy and sell prices in the market. It is a market cost rather than a separate Totality commission and can vary with liquidity and market conditions.
