How is ‘account value’ defined?

Understanding Account Value

Your Account Value represents the total value of assets, liabilities, and unrealised profits or losses in your account. It is calculated as follows:

  • Cash on the account – Includes your cash balance and transactions not yet booked.
  • Market value of investments – Covers stocks, bonds, options, ETFs, and other funds.
  • Unrealised profits/losses – Reflects gains or losses from open margin positions such as CFDs, FX, and futures.
  • Cost to close – Includes commission, exchange fees, stamp duty, and other exit costs.
  • Total accruals – Consists of financing accruals and corporate actions accruals.

Potential Discrepancies in Account Value

  • The Account Details section reflects real-time values, while the Positions module may show delayed prices based on your market data subscription.
  • The Account Summary/Details balance may differ from the Positions module, as some components use slightly different pricing to protect clients from forced position closures due to short-term price fluctuations.
