How do I set up instructions to receive my dividends as cash (dividend option) or securities (dividend reinvestment)?

Dividend Instructions for Upcoming Corporate Actions

It is possible to set up instructions for upcoming dividends to be booked either as cash or securities, depending on the corporate action type.

What Are Dividend Instructions?

A dividend instruction is a predefined rule that determines how an election for dividends should be automatically processed. These instructions apply exclusively to corporate actions categorised as DRIP (Dividend Reinvestment Plan) or DVOP (Dividend Option) and do not apply to other corporate events.

Whenever a voluntary corporate action of type DRIP or DVOP occurs, an election will automatically be made for either cash or securities, based on the specified instruction.

Applicable Corporate Action Types

Dividend instructions only apply to:

  • DRIP (Dividend Reinvestment Plan) – Allows dividends to be reinvested into additional shares.
  • DVOP (Dividend Option) – Gives shareholders the choice to receive dividends as cash or shares.

Dividend Instructions – Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I set a Dividend Instruction for events other than Dividend Option or Dividend Reinvestment?
No, Dividend Instructions can only be set for Dividend Option or Dividend Reinvestment events.

2. How do Dividend Instructions work?
Dividend Instructions are applied in the following scenarios:

  • When a new corporate action event is published, and an existing Dividend Instruction is automatically applied.
  • When a corporate action event is already active, and a new Dividend Instruction is added.
  • When a manual election is made on an active event, and a new Dividend Instruction is added afterwards, the new instruction will override the existing election.

3. Can I remove my Dividend Instruction?
Yes, you can remove an existing Dividend Instruction at any time.

4. Can I override an election submitted via my Dividend Instruction?
No, you cannot directly override it. If you wish to choose a different option, you must first delete the existing Dividend Instruction. Once removed, you can either make a manual election via the Active Events section or set up a new Dividend Instruction.

5. What is an Instruction Indicator?
When an election is made in the Corporate Action Voluntary Events module, an indicator labeled "Instruction Processing in Progress" will appear. This means the election is being sent to and processed by our Corporate Actions system. Once confirmed, this will change to "Acknowledged/Accepted."

6. Where can I find key dates such as the pay date or ex-date for a specific event?
You can view all event-related details, including pay date, ex-date, and more, in the event details window within the Corporate Action Voluntary Events module.
